On 21st September the EU Commission published an update, based on the latest scientific evidence, of the EU Council Screening Recommendations which now add Prostate Cancer (PCa) to the list of cancers to be addressed by new Cancer Screening Recommendations. New guidelines will be produced and the Commission commits to supporting EU Member States with implementation. It is reassuring for men in the UK to know that the EAU is in full support of the UK’s PCa screening projects and how this can be conducted to the standards required by future national screening programmes. PCaSO fully supports the need for a UK national screening programme for PCa, from which some 12,000 men sadly lose their lives each year.
