The Institute of Cancer Research and Royal Marsden hospital analysed data from 16,000 men and established that prostate cancer patients who had a close relative with the cancer, had up to 20% better survival rate that other men. Family history is a key issue as men whose father or brother had PCa are 2.5 times more likely than men in general, to develop the disease (The Times 11 Feb 2023).
PCaSO recommends that such higher-risk men should speak to their GP about regular tests, for re-assurance and early diagnosis.
